Network EngineerComputer networks are now a key component of very many businesses and other organizations. They range from a few computers linked up on a single site to huge multinational networks involving thousands of computers, and the largest network of all, the Internet.  As a network engineer you could work in one of many different network engineering jobs.  You might design networks, analyze and solve a company’s networking requirements, provide technical support or be responsible for network security. You would use your problem solving skills to provide effective solutions to a host of varied network challenges. 

Network Engineer Education

Network engineering jobs are generally awarded to graduates of a network engineer bachelor degree program.  You will work on a wide range of subjects, including background mathematics and science.  The core courses you will take will be network related.  These will include topics such as

  • The Internet, wide area networks, and local area networks.
  • Networking configuration and protocols
  • Routing and traffic management
  • Network operating systems
  • Wireless and wired networks
  • Network analysis and design

You will study these and related topics in considerable depth, acquiring a strong professional grasp of up-to-the minute software and hardware technology. 

Network Engineering Jobs

Graduates of network engineer programs can expect to find a wide and exciting variety of entry-level network engineering jobs. Major corporations may employ large numbers of network engineers with job titles such as network administrator, systems manager, Internet administrator, technical support engineer, or network analyst, among many others. You will also find opportunities to use your network engineer skills in technical sales and marketing.This is an expanding area of technology. As a well-educated network engineer your career outlook should be bright.
