Architecture Schools - Architecture - Architect

Architecture Past and PresentArchitecture Schools

Immediately following the Second World War, modern architecture exploded.  As more building materials were readily accessible, buildings of concrete glass and steel were being built at a rapid pace.  This period in architecture was marked by the stark buildings, void of any decoration or ornamentation.

Architecture has slowly changed since that time.  Architecture is still experimental in the fact that architects are constantly using new materials and designs to explore the art.

Architecture today is less stark, but still sleek and simple.  Many architects are very concerned with fitting their creation in to the natural environment surrounding the building.  Architecture today is very diverse and may include homes, commercial buildings, and more.

The Foundations of a Good Architect

Architects must be good designers, creative, and motivated.  Architects must be able to create three-dimensional models in their mind, keeping in mind the practical use of the space.  They must be artistic and innovative, using materials and space in a pleasing and effective way.

They must work with construction managers to actually build the building.  They must constantly adjust their designs to accommodate changes during the building process.

They must be familiar with the tools and materials of their trade.  Architects must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in architecture from an architecture school or an accredited university.  They must be familiar with theory and the practice of architecture

And surprisingly, the architect’s greatest tool is the computer.  You can create and design an entire building to exact dimensions much more efficiently on the computer, as well as see what it will look like.  The computer and other schools you can gain at an architecture school are extremely valuable to your education.
