Named on Easter 1513 by Ponce de Leon, Florida (or "Flowery Easter") is often known as the Sunshine State. Residents might tell you, however, the "Rainy State" would be equally applicable. For in truth, it rains quite a bit in this popular vacation destination. However, the occasional storms are usually only 5-10 minutes. That's a small price to pay for such exquisite beauty. No wonder so many people retire in this, the 27th state.

When most people think of Florida, they imagine beaches and theme parks (Miami and Disneyworld being the most popular). However, Florida has so many other things to offer the would-be traveler. The Everglades and Keyes are two prime examples. For you history students out there, did you know Florida's was originally the alleged site of the fountain of youth? To date, all quests have been unsuccessful, but that does not mean the fountain doesn't exist. Happy hunting.
