What Is Distance Learning?

Distance learning is any off-campus form of study when you are not in the same physical space as your instructor. It is done through various methods of communication such as videos, computers, email, or possibly interactive videoconferencing – a process by which the instructor records live streaming video footage and the students have headphones and microphones so they can all participate in a "classroom" discussion from anywhere in the world.

Distance Learning Programs

Distance learning has evolved to the point that it can benefit anyone. Online classes exist for kindergarten students and doctoral candidates. You can complete additional training, obtain a diploma or advanced degree, or earn a specific certification for a new skill you need at work. Many traditional colleges and universities now offer distance learning programs over the internet, meaning you have all of the well-established resources of that school at your disposal without ever setting foot on its campus.

Benefits of Distance Learning Programs

Furthering your education no longer has to be an expensive or time-consuming process. You do not have to quit your job or leave your family. Instead of attending classes at certain times, you can study in the evenings or on the weekends – whenever it suits you.

Research your chosen school before enrolling, and especially before paying any fees, to make sure it has a respectable reputation and has been accredited. You should also be able to contact your instructors either through email or over the phone. Then, once you have been accepted, you will read or listen to lectures, complete assignments, and take exams without having to leave your house. It's the easiest way to earn a new degree, learn a new skill, and further your career in existence today.
